CC Records rocks into fashion at The Islington next month

On Tuesday 19th November CC Records will be holding it's first music night at The Islington Cafe bar on Tolpuddle Street. The first music night will be of the folk, pop and country genres.

Noel Cowley is a London based songwriter and singer. His debut ep Hazy Summer Morning made it onto
BBC Introducing In Essex in 2012 and this year he has played at a number of notable festivals including
The London FolkFest, Standon Calling and Folkstock Acoustic Festival.
Noel has just released a single, "Emily", written about the suffragette Emily Davison and he'll be in the
studio again next month to record his second ep for release in January 2014.

CC Records

On Sunday 29th September I set up CC Records Music Label and Promotions Company in Kings Cross with my lovely woman.

The aim of CC Records is to help emerging unsigned bands and musicians get signed up to a local record label. They would also be able to get some top gigs and festivals as we'll be able to use our own contacts very wisely.

England Vs Australia : Michael Clarke a doubt for ODI Decider

The Australia Captain Michael Clarke is a major doubt for the last one day international in his sides five match series against England.

Clarke has had a recurrence of his troublesome back injury ahead of the fifth ODI at The Rose Bowl in Southampton and will need a late fitness test.

This news will come as growing worry to Australia who are already without Shaun Marsh who succumbed to a hamstring injury. Marsh is expected to be replaced by Phil Hughes who hasn't played for Australia since the Second Ashes Test at Lords in July.

The series is tied at 1-1 following England's three wicket triumph on Saturday.

When asked about Clarke's fitness, the Australia coach Lehmann said '' It's a big game. But if he is not right, we won't risk him".

After this tour of England, Australia have an important one day series coming up against India before the big Ashes series down under. So they will want to keep injuries at a low as they've already lost Mitchell Starc and Ryan Harris to injuries during The Ashes series in England.

England opener Michael Carberry came to form at the right by hitting a gutsy maiden half century in Saturday's victory in Cardiff.

The Hampshire batsmen is hoping to impress again in his bid to gain a call up to the Ashes Squad for the series in Australia but he's refusing to be drawn into thinking too far ahead.

This deciding ODI today at the Rose Bowl should be a very close match and the winner will be the team that makes the best use of the conditions. It's a hard one to call but I think England may just sneak it if Michael Clarke has to sit out as Australia will be missing one of their top one day batsmen.

DipDab Parties launches at The Bells of Shoreditch on Friday 20th September

On Friday 20th September DipDab parties launches the first event at The Bells of Shoreditch. We are Anonymous are primarily a cartel of friends that all have a deep love of music generally and in particular house.

Between them they all have many combined years of musical knowledge and experience. They have gained this musical knowledge and experiences by hosting, promoting or playing at events to attending them.

On Friday 20th September they are proud to announce that they are bringing you the first instalment of their monthly night called Dip Dab! You best come and check this night out as they'll be bringing you the very best in Deep/ Tech/ Minimal House grooves with a line up of the scenes biggest and best dj's.

Laura May Brophy will be a highlight of 2013/2014

Laura May Brophy is an Irish songstress from Cork who is currently living in London. She's busy writing new songs and getting ready to record an EP. When she's ready to gig with her roster of top songs then she will almost certainly be someone to watch out for.

Currently she has written two songs for EP they are 'Echoes' and 'Lion Heart (Kitty's Song )'. Echoes could be about someone who is finding it hard to get over someone they have previously dated and is just about going out to have a good time and not listening to what anyone else thinks. I am very sure that this song will prove to be a hit because it has all the credentials to be a great folk pop song and I'm sure people will love it as there's hints of Florence and The Machine and Ellie Goulding influences in this song.

Lion Heart (Kitty Song) could be about being young and taking one things at a time. It could also be about not wanting to grow up to quickly as you're life will become complicated as you have deal with relationships, work and one day moving away from your family to seek pastures new. This will also be one of the key songs in the next twelve months as listeners will love the song and it will eventually grow on them.

Watch out for Laura over the next twelve months as she's currently busy writing what will be some great songs to go with these two eventual hits. Watch out for her as she's definitely going to be going places over the next twelve months. Expect packed out shows when she gets on the gigging circuit.

Sound Advice Uk's August Acoustic Sunday

On the 4th August, St Peter's Church in De Beauvoir came to life for an afternoon of eclectic and diverse music courtesy of Sound Advice Uk. Sound Advice UK is a non hierarchial music and media project that has been running for over three years.

The first act of this incredible Sunday musical extravaganza was the amazing Essex songstress Alice Walker. She rocked the place by playing her brand of exciting dark pop with dark harmonies and captivating piano playing. Her songs are about many things that exist  in today's society such as love, daily life and death. It was great to have her play in a new venue again as she played in the amazing Vortex Jazz Bar way back in 2010. If you want to check out her music then check out the link below.

Next  up was the amazing Tommy Antonio band. As soon as his band started playing the whole room fell silent so that everyone could experience the true class of the double bass Tommy and the rest of his impressive entourage of musicians. The band played a perfect brand of soft pop with various hints of folk. Most of the songs they performed are about journeys or places they have travelled too. One example is the song Grand Central Station which is about travelling around in New York and the incredible attractions that one comes across. Personally there has never been a room so silent as the crypt was during their set this just shows that the audience really wanted to embrace the incredible Tommy Antonio. Little Sister Blue were the third band of the day. They are a Bluegrass and folksy five piece from Kingston in South West London. They consisted of a guitarist, drummer, cello and a double bassThe whole room was attentive once again as they were presented with a distinctive stripped back Bluegrass and soft sweet  vocals from Sarah Macdonald who is there lead singer. Mostly their songs lyrics focus on relationships such as familial love, delicate and nourishing friendships. Everyone was particularly impressed by the sweet vocals and harmonies as well as the way all the instrument blended immaculately to create some real feel good music that one could dance to.   If you missed them then you should definitely check out the music below and keep up to date as they will be looking for gigs from September onwards no doubt.

Don Kipper ended the Acoustic Sunday with their brand of gypsy folk. Strangely enough it is very hard to classify them as being  just one genre as they have hints of everything through out their set. They are primarily a Jazz gypsy band with hints of Eastern European folk and Balkan roots. They got everyone jiving in toe with the music. They are the perfect band to dance to on a hot balmy afternoon with lots of close friends around you.

The Protoneers : SEDUCTION WOMAN EP

The Protoneers are a four piece alternative rock and blues band form Linconlnshire. They're heavily influenced by some of the classic artists such as The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and The Who. 

Over the last twelve to eighteen months they've been consistently up and down the country in famous venues in some of the major venues in London, Nottingham, Lincoln and Leicester. Following on from playing all these show's the band began recording an EP which was released on July 15th under the name of 'Seduction Woman'. Seduction Woman follows on from their 2011 debut "Six67".

The first song of this EP is called 'Today Will Come', from listening to this song one could deduce that it could be about a couple that are having problems with each other. This could be one of the perfect break up songs in a few years. The things that I like about this song is the fact that there is a distinctive use of raw guitars and clever lyrics. The Protoneers can held their head up high as they have one of the best lyricists in Sam Thomas and Dan Wicks they certainly give the Gallaghers and Kelly Jones a run for their money.

The next song of this EP is the self titled ' Seduction Woman', after hearing this song one could tell that it could be about a woman who is very sought after and you get the chance to date her but you blow it. Many people in today's society will be able to relate to this song in some way as they've all messed up passed relationships. Seduction Woman will one day become one of those hit festival anthems or summer anthems. 

'Stutter' is the third and final song of this EP, it has very dark side to it, which could mean that it could be about a dark reconciliation after a break up. The things that will make the listener want to listen again as there are  very distinctive guitar sounds which sound very Oasisesque. From listening to this whole EP you can tell strongly that The Protoneers are heavily influenced by various alternative rock bands that have spanned the last thirty years. This includes Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, The Kinks and many more.

This EP is definitely a 9/10 in my view, it would be even more interesting to see what others songs they right during the rest of the summer. Watch out London The Protoneers are going to come back strongly with their brand of raw alternative rock and blues. In a few years time you'll definitely get the chance to see them play at Glastonbury alongside some of the greatest rock bands in history such as the Stereophonics and Arctic Monkeys. They have that distinctive edge about them.

Block Porter Promotions show 24th July 2013

Block Porter Promotions are a local promotions company that is run by Elliot Porter and Art Block, they've done various shows in top venues around East London and North London.

On the 24th July they presented a mainly acoustic themed night at The Luxe.

First up on the night was the maverick  North London guitarist Ben London. His songs are mainly about political unrest in society and what it's really like to live in a big city like London. His song titled 'You Love Me' could be about a long lost lover that one hasn't seen for years. He ended in the set in pristine style with his hit song ' It's Hard Life Being Rich'. This song could be  about someone who has just got rich after university and is finding it hard to adjust to London life.  It's very hard to picture Ben London's music being just one genre as there is a hint of powerpop, rock and punk in most of his songIf you like what you heard then check out Ben London on Soundcloud He's consistently gigging around various venues in London such as 12 Bar Club, Spice of Life and The Islington.

Next up on the night was the amazing Art Block. He played short but spell binding set which will ultimately make me want to hear him live for many times to come. I particularly love the lyrics to his opening song 'The Prince'. From listening to this song one gets the idea that it could be about a friend who you will inevitably drift apart from one day. The other song I really enjoyed was Polly. From listening to this song you get the idea that it is about a young woman who is in her own little world whilst riding on her bicycle. His song is trying to make cyclists drive carefully I can empathise with the song greatly as unfortunately i actually saw a cyclist have a collision with a lorry. Jack Hutchinson was the third act of the evening and he played a faultless blues rock set. He's normally accompanied by a band but I was very impressed with his solo songs and will definitely be checking out his band soon.. His set consisted of songs from his new album that's titled 'Feathers and Fools'. I was really blown away by his stage persona. It was truly amazing the way he got everyone listening to his immaculate guitar playing and his brand of blues and folk. You get the sense that he could be heavily influenced by Bob Dylan and various other blues singers. The fourth act of the evening  was Blueroom, a three piece alternative rock band from Brighton. They played a very energetic and rousing live set from which you can easily tell that they are strongly influenced by Foals and The National. From listening to their set you realise that their music moved with such ease from groove based high's to moody lows carried by intense and mainly dark vocals. Arcelia were the final band of the night and I was very impressed with their set. I'm quickly becoming one of their biggest fans. Their set consisted of vivid harmonies and soulful  lyrics. Arcelia are certianly not just a one genre band as  they blend low fi, folk and soul.  They combined guitar, cajon and original songwriting to make a very unique sound.  I wish them all the best and really hope that this time next year they would have played at some top folk festivals up and down the country. Come and check out the next big country songstress Lucy Kitt

Ladies and Gentleman I fully advise that you listen to the amazing Country and Bluegrass singer Lucy Kitt. She's based in London and Kent and has been writing, recording and performing  for 10 years. She has fans all over the UK, Europe and parts of California.

First up on her Where I Belong EP is the amazing country western song titled 'Loud and Clear'. This song makes the listener deduce that It could be about a couple who haven't seen each other a long time. I feel that this song is perfect for a balmy summers evening. 

Next up is 'Where I Belong', this song could be out a newly enlightened couple who have just started seeing each other. I can relate to this song a lot as every guy goes through a sticky period in their love  life buteventually finds a woman that they truely love and adore. From listening to this song you realise that she is very heavily influenced by Neil Young and Joni Mitchell who are some of the most iconic country singers in America during the late 1960's.

'Laurel Canyon' could be about a journey that Lucy once took around America when she was travelling. One could also get the idea that it is about someone who is far away from home and is experiencing new cultures from afar. This is my favourite song of her's as I feel that I can relate to it very easily as I've been to various other countries that are very far from home.

The next song 'Eagle' could be about two people who have split upand are trying to move on after being together for quite a while. I really like this song as I like the way she sings about the Eagle carrying her away from the gloom of unfortunate break up.

From listening to this EP I get the sense that Lucy Kitt will go on to bigger and better things very quickly. Expect her to playing at folk festivals all round the world. Watch out for Lucy Kitt as she'll be coming to a venue near you.

Georgia Grace

Georgia Grace is another act that i fully advise you check out this summer. If you're looking for something which sounds folky and bluesy then Georgia is the one you should check out. If you're looking to see her live she has a residency at The Troubadour in West London once a month.

The songs on her soundcloud are a mixture of folk and blues. I think she would perfect to listen to on a  late summers evening. Expect big things from her she'll be gracing lots of small folk festivals in a few months. Don't bet against her playing at The Hard Rock Calling next year. She fully deserves it.

The Carnabys

The Carnabys have won the Hard Rock Rising  Global Competition 2013 and will be playing at  Hard Rock Calling in Queen Elizabeth's Olympic Park on June 29th alongside Paul Weller, Kasabian and many more. To win this competition they had to compete against very other bands from around world to gain maximum votes. The boy's have had a rollercoaster twelve months with loads of gigs and their self titled EP.

I first came across them in the summer of 2012 when they played at The Luxe in August.  I was thrilled by their top soulful rock set which got everyone dancing and rocking to the beat. One could tell that they would be going on to better things very soon.

Here's a link to their self titled EP. I fully advise you to purchase it. It will be well worth it. All the songs in this album are catchy and one will want to dance. This EP is perfect for a warm summers day and will be perfect for any barbecue.

Lovesick Presents Easter Extravaganaza

Last night the basement bar at The Book Club was home to Lovesick Presents and Guy Williams for the night. With it being the first night of the four day weekend you got the feeling that everyone there was ready for a big night of partying to the latest house, disco and reggae vibes. It was also the first night in which many university students from all over the country came back to London and were looking for something fun to do. But don't think that there was just university students there. It was also full of arty professionals and hipsters.

From 8pm - 10pm you had the amazing Blonde Ambition and her Lovesick Presents team spinning the finest house, disco and reggae tunes. This got everyone dancing and slowly but surely you got the sense that tonight was going to be a very special night and probably the best night of the Easter Bank Holiday season.

Guy Williams was djiing at 10pm till midnight, I didn't get to see all of his set as I went to my work briefly but I was very impressed with how he got everyone dancing on the dance floor to his mix of eclectic deep house. Watch out for him in the next few months, he tends to dj's over East London a lot of the time

Blonde Ambition and Lovesick Present then came back to the decks to end the night with some rousing house and disco music which got everyone throwing shapes all over the dancefloor. Lovesick Presents has to be one of the best house and disco nights in London as they create a real party atmosphere which people have grown to love.

Watch out for the Lovesick Presents DJ's they will be djiing in plenty more venues in the summer, if you couldn't make last night then I strongly recommend that you come to the next one to experience a rocking party/ carnival vibe.

The Lovesick Presents DJ's are Djiing at the Secret Garden Party festival in July, so if you have tickets for that festival, you are onto a winner.

NIKA MUSIC

On Friday 22nd February we were lucky to have one of the most amazing party bands headline the  Stand Up Comedy Night at The Luxe Live. NIKA Music is made up of the amazing Nicol Zelinska and her band. Nika is a singer songwriter/ entertainer and recording artist who is originally from Latvia. She is best known for being the Eurovision finalist in 2003, 2004 and 2006. She has been living in London since 2007 and has performed at various venues such as the Sheperds Bush Empire and Hammersmith Apollo. During 2009 she was successful on ITV's X Factor where she reached the Boot Camp Stage of the competition.

Nika's show at The Luxe Live was only second time that  i've seen her live but it feels like I've seen her many times before. She has lots of energy and a great stage presence this makes everyone want to stay and discover the delights of her music. Her live set got everyone dancing and swaying to the beat. I was particularly impressed with the way she managed to get everyone to sing various songs from her EP. 

Nika for me is not just a superb vocalist, but one who can move easily between riffy r&B to jazz to unique rap. This is great because it shows that she's got a very unique stage personality and great charisma. With Nika you must "expect the unexpected"

Getting the fans involved is the key for an artist to be successful and Nika has mastered that very well. Ladies and gentleman expect big things from this woman and don't forget to come and support her along the way. 

Her next big show is at The Troubadour in South West London on Tuesday 9th April where she'll be headlining and doing a semi acoustic set in one of London most prestigious venues which has housed many household names over the years such as Paolo Nutini, Jimi Hendrix, Paul Simon and Bob Dylan. This is going to be an epic night. She's supported by some truly amazing artists. So this is one night that can't be missed. It's £6 all night so get down early to avoid any  disappointment. It's not the biggest venue so I fully advise you to get there in good time so you get a good view of what will be a cracking performance from Nika

Bairbe Anne

Bairbre Anne is a young and vibrant singer songwriter from Dublin in Ireland. She's one of Ireland's fastest emerging talents.  She's been integrated into music since day one. She played piano from an early age, this  is where her songwriting talents emerged.

It's hasn't been plane sailing all the time for Bairbre she has put to be determined and not feel down when things haven't gone so well. But the good times have well and truely come for over the last eighteen months. She was the winner of the RTE 2FM songwriting competition the final. This was broadcasted live from Vicar Street.

She's appeared on Balcony TV various times and was nominated for their Best Female Act.

On International Women's Day  in 2012, Bairbre wrote a hit song called "Distance" which has got 822 views.

Since then she's been gigging in venues nationwide such as The Ruby Sessions, The Old Queens Head and The Watergate Theatre.

Bairbre has completed several recording including two EP's. Her second EP 'Helium Heart' is really starting to grow on me. It's perfect music to listen to after a long stressful week, her folky soulful voice will get you in the mood for a good night out.

QPR VS MK Dons

QPR are knocked out of the FA Cup 4^th Round in style by MK Dons

In an FA Cup tie that most thought would only have one most likely out come proved to be one of the biggest shocks in many years after MK Dons emphatically beat QPR 4-2 at Loftus Road.

Very few people expected MK Dons to get anything out of this tie even though they were facing a much changed QPR side. Harry Redknapp made nine changes to his QPR side that drew with West Ham 1-1 last weekend. The QPR team that he picked still had several international so one wouldn't have expected QPR to fold so embarrassingly.

Three of the four goals the home side conceded came courtesy of defensive errors and wasteful finishing.

DJ Campbell had the ball in the back of the net for QPR in the first minute but it was ruled out for offside.

The Don's Keeper made several saves but Ryan Lowe latched onto a long pass from Anthony Kay which caught Anton Ferdinand napping to fire past Robert Green just before the break.

Things went from bad to worse after half time when Ryan Lowe beat the offside trap and set up substitute Ryan Hartley who slotted in from close range.

Martin amazingly pushed over an Alejandro Faurlain header before MK Dons amazingly made it 4-0 in the 56^th minute when Potter smashed it past Robert Green after some dreadful defending from a set piece by QPR.

Two late goals from Jay Boythroyd and Fabio in the last ten minutes were unable to spoil the away fans day. So it is MK Dons who march on into the FA Cup 5^th round draw for the first time in their clubs history. Sadly QPR barren FA Cup history continues they haven't reached the FA Cup fifth round since the 1996/97 season where they were beaten 2-1 by Wimbledon.
