The Protoneers : SEDUCTION WOMAN EP

The Protoneers are a four piece alternative rock and blues band form Linconlnshire. They're heavily influenced by some of the classic artists such as The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and The Who. 

Over the last twelve to eighteen months they've been consistently up and down the country in famous venues in some of the major venues in London, Nottingham, Lincoln and Leicester. Following on from playing all these show's the band began recording an EP which was released on July 15th under the name of 'Seduction Woman'. Seduction Woman follows on from their 2011 debut "Six67".

The first song of this EP is called 'Today Will Come', from listening to this song one could deduce that it could be about a couple that are having problems with each other. This could be one of the perfect break up songs in a few years. The things that I like about this song is the fact that there is a distinctive use of raw guitars and clever lyrics. The Protoneers can held their head up high as they have one of the best lyricists in Sam Thomas and Dan Wicks they certainly give the Gallaghers and Kelly Jones a run for their money.

The next song of this EP is the self titled ' Seduction Woman', after hearing this song one could tell that it could be about a woman who is very sought after and you get the chance to date her but you blow it. Many people in today's society will be able to relate to this song in some way as they've all messed up passed relationships. Seduction Woman will one day become one of those hit festival anthems or summer anthems. 

'Stutter' is the third and final song of this EP, it has very dark side to it, which could mean that it could be about a dark reconciliation after a break up. The things that will make the listener want to listen again as there are  very distinctive guitar sounds which sound very Oasisesque. From listening to this whole EP you can tell strongly that The Protoneers are heavily influenced by various alternative rock bands that have spanned the last thirty years. This includes Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, The Kinks and many more.

This EP is definitely a 9/10 in my view, it would be even more interesting to see what others songs they right during the rest of the summer. Watch out London The Protoneers are going to come back strongly with their brand of raw alternative rock and blues. In a few years time you'll definitely get the chance to see them play at Glastonbury alongside some of the greatest rock bands in history such as the Stereophonics and Arctic Monkeys. They have that distinctive edge about them.

Block Porter Promotions show 24th July 2013

Block Porter Promotions are a local promotions company that is run by Elliot Porter and Art Block, they've done various shows in top venues around East London and North London.

On the 24th July they presented a mainly acoustic themed night at The Luxe.

First up on the night was the maverick  North London guitarist Ben London. His songs are mainly about political unrest in society and what it's really like to live in a big city like London. His song titled 'You Love Me' could be about a long lost lover that one hasn't seen for years. He ended in the set in pristine style with his hit song ' It's Hard Life Being Rich'. This song could be  about someone who has just got rich after university and is finding it hard to adjust to London life.  It's very hard to picture Ben London's music being just one genre as there is a hint of powerpop, rock and punk in most of his songIf you like what you heard then check out Ben London on Soundcloud He's consistently gigging around various venues in London such as 12 Bar Club, Spice of Life and The Islington.

Next up on the night was the amazing Art Block. He played short but spell binding set which will ultimately make me want to hear him live for many times to come. I particularly love the lyrics to his opening song 'The Prince'. From listening to this song one gets the idea that it could be about a friend who you will inevitably drift apart from one day. The other song I really enjoyed was Polly. From listening to this song you get the idea that it is about a young woman who is in her own little world whilst riding on her bicycle. His song is trying to make cyclists drive carefully I can empathise with the song greatly as unfortunately i actually saw a cyclist have a collision with a lorry. Jack Hutchinson was the third act of the evening and he played a faultless blues rock set. He's normally accompanied by a band but I was very impressed with his solo songs and will definitely be checking out his band soon.. His set consisted of songs from his new album that's titled 'Feathers and Fools'. I was really blown away by his stage persona. It was truly amazing the way he got everyone listening to his immaculate guitar playing and his brand of blues and folk. You get the sense that he could be heavily influenced by Bob Dylan and various other blues singers. The fourth act of the evening  was Blueroom, a three piece alternative rock band from Brighton. They played a very energetic and rousing live set from which you can easily tell that they are strongly influenced by Foals and The National. From listening to their set you realise that their music moved with such ease from groove based high's to moody lows carried by intense and mainly dark vocals. Arcelia were the final band of the night and I was very impressed with their set. I'm quickly becoming one of their biggest fans. Their set consisted of vivid harmonies and soulful  lyrics. Arcelia are certianly not just a one genre band as  they blend low fi, folk and soul.  They combined guitar, cajon and original songwriting to make a very unique sound.  I wish them all the best and really hope that this time next year they would have played at some top folk festivals up and down the country. Come and check out the next big country songstress Lucy Kitt

Ladies and Gentleman I fully advise that you listen to the amazing Country and Bluegrass singer Lucy Kitt. She's based in London and Kent and has been writing, recording and performing  for 10 years. She has fans all over the UK, Europe and parts of California.

First up on her Where I Belong EP is the amazing country western song titled 'Loud and Clear'. This song makes the listener deduce that It could be about a couple who haven't seen each other a long time. I feel that this song is perfect for a balmy summers evening. 

Next up is 'Where I Belong', this song could be out a newly enlightened couple who have just started seeing each other. I can relate to this song a lot as every guy goes through a sticky period in their love  life buteventually finds a woman that they truely love and adore. From listening to this song you realise that she is very heavily influenced by Neil Young and Joni Mitchell who are some of the most iconic country singers in America during the late 1960's.

'Laurel Canyon' could be about a journey that Lucy once took around America when she was travelling. One could also get the idea that it is about someone who is far away from home and is experiencing new cultures from afar. This is my favourite song of her's as I feel that I can relate to it very easily as I've been to various other countries that are very far from home.

The next song 'Eagle' could be about two people who have split upand are trying to move on after being together for quite a while. I really like this song as I like the way she sings about the Eagle carrying her away from the gloom of unfortunate break up.

From listening to this EP I get the sense that Lucy Kitt will go on to bigger and better things very quickly. Expect her to playing at folk festivals all round the world. Watch out for Lucy Kitt as she'll be coming to a venue near you.
